Robot Drawing & Weird Tales Part 4 (Read Part 1 ) The trip back to our rest stations in the evening is very similar to the morning except that many of the machines are beginning to wind down. The electronic devices are still heavily in use but it is clear that many of us are in need of a battery recharge. When I finally arrive at my home I fill up on more processed and chemically enhanced foods before docking myself in front of a large screen. Again I find myself hooked up to the computer reviewing the days information and preparing myself for tomorrow business routines.
As the night time creeps up I relax and take in some of the popular programs. Although I once considered these as nonessential recreation I now realize they actually serve a very important function. While our robotic bodies work on repairing themselves before shutting down, our minds are still being uploaded with massive amounts of information. Our “thoughts” are determined by messages from the screen dictating our behavioural patterns for the near future. The evenings re-programming tells us what topics to discuss, what fashions to wear, what products to buy and so on. In essence our entertainment is actually nothing more than a vessel for downloading application updates into my susceptible subconscious.
Finally the day's cycle ends and my motors shut down. I eat a couple of small chemical tablets do a brief bit of maintenance in the washroom before settling into my pod. I set the timers and plug in my appendages beside the bed. The major machinery in my body powers down leaving only a small part of the central computer active. In dreams I continue to process the days information as my mind compiles the new data and synchronizes it with the old. It is in these dreams that I can see the reality of our situation. In one sense they appear absurd yet organic but I've figured out what there truly are. It is a computer language in it's purest form, undisguised by our so called “humanity” apps making it difficult to decipher although a highly effective means of control. Continue Weird Tale Part 5
