HEY APTHY! CEILING MURALS

CEILING MURALS! The City is a Giant Gear propelled by all the strange characters moving through it! In fact the gear spins so quickly sometimes it can be all too easy to get lost amidst the madness! Dreams get lost in sky scraper buildings, hopes get dashed by the market that crashed and the imagination is often suffocated beneath the weight of a regulated reality.  In this world going nowhere it takes a bit of effort to stand out and above the crowd!

That is exactly what the crew of skateboard riders are doing over at Longboard Living with their active and community oriented lifestyle! Ryan Rubin and company are building an incredible little universe in Toronto’s Kensington Market involving weekly group skateboard tours, lessons for the neighborhood kids and promoting local artists and riders. It wasn't that long ago Ryan was skating around the neighborhood trying to get artist to hand paint boards and setting up on the street corners selling them! Now he's got a couple of stores, a reputation and a giant HEY APATHY comic book drawing in his store.  The most inspiring thing about working on Ryan’s ceiling is that I get to contribute to such a positive and healthy street style activity!

In this crazy graffiti wall you can see an illuminated longboard skater floating out from the chaos representative of how this activity keeps the kids from getting lost in the machine! Oh yeah I guess I was supposed to write about the mural process or something but if you’ve read any of this stuff already you’ve probably realized that that sort of thing is of little interest to me and all these comics and murals are actually just a strange vehicle for communicating more important messages! Damn I hope somebody learns something from all my troubles. Skate or get eaten by in the monster!
