THE BIRTH OF A HERO!
STREET ART COMICS! An unsuspecting young business man is waiting for one of his devices to BEEP, when a technological tentacle swoops out of nowhere, grasping the poor citizens face. Forcefully the mecha-vine attempts to rewrite the man’s program, inserted all sorts of wonderful new features and nullified ideologies. Oddly enough in this instance, a struggle occurs and some deep rooted life force, determined, hopeful, inspirational, and childish, transforms the probable victim and the tentacles are destroyed. A Hero is Born! “HARRISON B.” escapes the decimation and dons a white cape and mask, retreating to practice, but destined to retaliate! 2x18 foot Ink on paper, performance drawing. ARTIST'S STATEMENTS
This large scale performance drawing featured one of my first depictions of the superhero. As my live performance painting techniques progressed, I began developing sequential artworks capable of telling stories instantaneously in front of live audiences. Naturally as I became more skilled at this I began to attract larger audiences. These new audiences included all kinds of people and I really began to appreciate the ability to interact with younger viewers. At this time I introduced the “superhero” characters as a tongue in cheek buffer between the monstrous realities and nihilistic pessimism expressed in the drawings, and the hope and wonderment that the young viewers so rightfully deserve.
