HEY APATHY! ALTERNATIVE COMICS
Monster Comics City of Gears!
From a distance the metropolis appears as an enormous gear powered by an endless sea of faceless denizens. As we move in for a closer look the strange humanoids identify themselves! The City is a Giant Gear but it is an infinite crowd of weird people, not anonymous cogs, who propel the machine! However the streets of the Gear are under siege by an unusual technological virus. Mechanized tendrils are subliminally attaching them selves to the eyes, ears, and appendages of unsuspecting consumers. Is there hope for humanity or has the age of assimilation truly begun? Superhero, Samurai, and Supernatural Monster Comics all told from the perspective of a tiny street artist situated amidst the madness. Combining allegorical street paintings and auto-biographical accounts of my experiences as a public performer, HEY APATHY! is a cross-genre anthology of interconnected stories from the City of Gears .

AN IMAGINARY LIFE
For as long as I can remember it has always been a mission of mine to draw and write my own comics. Over the years I developed numerous characters, scripts, short comics and cover drawings. However I was never truly satisfied with the creations enough to follow through with any project. It was just before my first year at the O.C.A.D., around the time I started taking illustration seriously, that I had a notion regarding the books. In order to create something original and wholly unique, the story insisted on auto-biographical content. By doing this I could ensure that no matter how similar, or sympathetic another’s experiences might be, they could not be exactly the same.(plus i hadn’t acquired any superhuman powers yet so how could I write about them?)
In addition to the auto-biographical content, I also hypothesized that auto-biographical content in graphic novels was generally boring. If I was going to tell my story I’d sure as heck have to get out of my studio and do something worth telling. One thing led to another and eventually I found myself sitting in the middle of the downtown core drawing enormous ink murals in front of large audiences. Parables of fallen heroes ,a technological assimilation of humanity and people losing their heads roared across the concrete. While I practiced sharing my chaotic mythologies on the streets, I was actually living out one of the fables myself.
As my abilities to paint increased I encountered many strange sensations and unusual characters. A Samurai walked out from the drawing as a local politician commissioned a large mural (now hanging in Toronto's City Hall). The CN Tower grew an eyeball and a bus load of grade school kids cheered me on while I drew. I painted while I slept and I dreamed while painting. The metropolis introduced itself and denizens perpetually spiralled through it. The entire experience continually excited and the lines between ink and reality became increasingly scarce. Having finally achieved some state of being of literary interest, I have started to pen this life long dream, the HEY APATHY! Comic book.
