HEY APATHY! MONSTER COMICS ANIMATION. "OF CIVILIZED DISCONTENT" follows the perpetual torture of a faceless little bubble person by various vices, devices, and routine urban atrocities. As the character floats anonymously through the big city several weird and vicious attacks come from the most mundane of places! A suit attempts strangulation, and a credit card takes a swipe! Can this tiny denizen survive the aggressive cars, labels, and perversions of the monstrous metropolis? This surreal metropolitan nightmare was hand drawn and originally shot on 16 mm film. The stop motion project consisted of approximately 200 small pen and ink drawings and many hours of my time. “Of Civilised Discontent” in part of the Chapter One HEY APATHY! AND THE APOCALYPSE ink drawing series. The entire installation included 13 large murals, over 200 smaller artworks, a short graphic novel as well as this cartoon and was first exhibited at the O.C.A.D. Atrium Gallery in Jan. 2002.
