ROACH COMICS MURALS AND ANIMATIONS

The FLIES HOLES AND ROACHES monster comics feature endlessly anonymous humanoids as they are pestered by flies, trapped infinitely in line, and decorated by grotesque blackened orifices. The imagery combines facets of both HEY APATHY! Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, furthering both my unconscious narrative and technical innovations. Regarding the monstrous metropolis.

The Roach drawings invite the viewer in for a close examination of the city’s disturbing denizens. Here the faceless bubble people and telepathic communications collide as the humanoid crowds begin to identify themselves. Grinding their teeth, the blank faced creatures dance vivaciously around to the sounds of an insect swarm. Welcome to the big city!

The series explores simplistic hieroglyphics suitably designed for public wall murals, comic strips, and animations. The entire Roach collection consisted of over 200 ink drawings, 3 short stories, 3 minutes of stop motion animation, and numerous large renegade wall murals. The minimalist qualities of the imagery allowed for massive artworks, examining multiple themes, to be created at an accelerated pace. The ability to make instantaneous and communicative drawings has since become an integral component of my public dialogue. The Roach investigation cumulated in the creation of a 10 x 150 long unsanctioned mural running the length of Toronto's Grange Park.Grange Park. More about Surreal Humanoids...
