WELCOME TO THE MONSTROUS METROPOLIS

THE LAST OPTIMIST is an alternative art comics, underground novella about disastrous daytrip to the big city. The story follows a young suburbanite as he is exposed to an increasingly horrific sequence of metropolitan events. Everywhere the anti- hero turns, something terrible happens! The city is under siege as urban atrocities attempt to envelope and destroy everyone and everything in the downtown core. As the unsuspecting anti-protagonist quests to endure the absurdity of the city, he falls strange, surreal and horrific metamorphosis, with brick like formations growing under his skin, this once hopeful hero slowly becomes the Last optimist.

This book was written in 2002 long before my experiments as a street artist. The story is told from the vantage of a lost little individual beginning to question the city, the people, and ultimately himself. Considered Book Zero in the ongoing HEY APATHY! Series, THE LAST OPTIMIST combines surreal modern parables, unusual auto-biographical occurrences and apocalyptic premonitions as a satirical documentation of life in the big city. A weird and unusual 32 page black and white graphic novel suggested for MATURE AUDIENCES.

ABOUT THE SERIES

HEY APATHY! is an alternative comics investigation of people, robots, creatures and life in the monstrous metropolis. The city is introduced as an ominous gear, but it is up to all the strange and crazy denizens to propel the machine. The comics feature a cross genre anthology of interconnected adventures and strange stories from the chaotic carnival known as the City of Gears. Although each novel is self contained, the complete collection reveals an extended narrative involving both the imaginary ink stained existence and my true life experiences as an artist and street performer.
