LIVE PAINTING & PUBLIC VENUESThe HEY APATHY! public performance installations take place inside a custom-designed portable art gallery and include giant spontaneous ink drawings, storytelling sessions, fine artworks, murals, t-shirts, prints ,comics, merchandise, and crazy loud experimental music . My first outdoor installation took place at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition in 2002. The enormous open air festival takes place annually at Toronto's new city hall, Nathan Philips Square. I have yet to experience any outdoor event like this anywhere else. The T.O.A.E. attracts some of the largest and most diverse crowds and is subsequently one of my favourite places to meet strangers and discuss the terrifying state of our existence. It was while working at this event that I became intrigued in the possibilities presented by connecting with peoples of all ages and from all walks of life. Many of the audience members had stumbled onto the show by accident and tonnes of them had never even been to an art gallery. The show is also a huge tourist attraction for our TO and as a result I have met so many different kinds of people and sent t-shirts and comic books travelling all over the world. The HEY APATHY! public displays have been installed seven times at the T.O.A.E. and have also been featured in Toronto's Historical Distillery District, the Sunnyside Pavilion, the Toronto Comic Con, and Nuit Blanche.
