from the collective unconscious! Following the year long extensive and meticulous architecture of the
HEY APATHY! and the APOCALYPSE
, I started drawing the second series with a decisively oppositional approach.
Having spent more time observing the metropolis as a full time student at the Ontario College of Art and Design, the images began to examine the social activities, relationships between individual experiences and universal hieroglyphics of the ominously anonymous masses. Now immersed in the madness, the monstrous metropolis was emitting communications.
The sporadic ink stained and animalistic expressions seemed to scream out from the faceless crowds like an unspoken dialogue free of all social, political and linguistic boundaries. Between the routines an unspoken despair and horrific dissatisfaction was combined with a vivacious compulsion towards existence.
In order to best capture this subliminal dialogue I decided to attempt an unusual ambidextrous and meditative drawing processes. Between January-March 2002 I created over 150 of these rapid left-handed interpretations of man's language beyond words.
